Lewis Hamilton Gifted 2010 Turkish Grand Prix
The Red Bull drivers giveth and Lewis Hamilton happily taketh. There is no other way to describe this weekend’s events than Lewis Hamilton was gifted the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix. The race was a bit exciting, but a bit odd as well. The first lap or two saw cars passing and driving all over the road. The odd thing was most of the drivers ended up just where they had been on the starting grid. Regardless, the race turned into a bit of parade as Webber led a sporty Hamilton, Vettel and Button lap after lap. The McLaren was particularly quick as it boasted a whopping 5 mile an hour advantage on the long straights thanks to its F-Duct.
Eventually, Hamilton would fall prey to Vettel as the McLaren team again managed to get the pits wrong. No worries. It was a mistake that would not only help Hamilton take the race, but also perhaps see the long term downfall of Red Bull in 2010. Why? Oh, the rivalry between Vettel and Webber just went nuclear! There is a very good chance the team could split much like the Alonso-Hamilton brawl at McLaren that cost both the championship.
Drivers of the Race – Hamilton
In truth, there really wasn’t one. Nobody put on a big charge, but I’ll give it to Hamilton. He kept pressure on the Red Bulls. McLaren thought this led to a crack at the charging bulls, but I think the accident was merely a case of Vettel being tired of finishing behind his teammate. Regardless, all credit to Hamilton for passing them and then being able to fend off a very feisty Button. I have to admit that Button continues to impress in a big way.
Poor Drive of the Race – Alonso
Vettel and Webber would certainly seem to be candidates, but their idiocy does not compare to the lackluster effort of Alonso. El Fernando seemed disinterested much of the weekend and did not exactly charge up through the field. He blamed the car, but one has to wonder what is up given the face he clearly was the problem only a week ago in Monaco. Finishing behind his very average teammate is simply unacceptable.
Team of the Race – McLaren
I’ve delivered a bat to the team on many occasions and rightly so. The strange strategies the team employees are still baffling, but all do credit to them in this race. The F-Duct let them race with Red Bull and the same should occur on the long straits of Canada. A very good race and a professional drive by two drivers who did not run each other off the road like we saw with a certain other team.
Poor Team of the Race – Ferrari
Wow. Has a team that was so competitive at the start of the season fallen back so fast ever before? That was simply pathetic. Alonso looks dissolutioned. Massa needs to be taken out of the car. Has he passed anyone this year? The team appears to be in trouble and one cannot expect much improvement in Canada. The F10 does not appear to like fast tracks. Who would have ever thought we would say that about a Ferrari!
