Button Drives Like A Champion

Jenson Button has more often been known for his social life and contract problems than he has for his driving. In Australia, Button drive like a champion.

Have you seen the women Jenson Button has dated? You probably have because that has pretty much been the most notable thing about his career. He has made some astonishingly bad decisions when it comes to picking teams to drive for and has pretty much been a non-factor most of his career. Yes, he has one win but even that was the result of a race in the rain. With Lewis Hamilton now on the trot, it appeared Button would fade away.

Not so fast.

The resurgence of the Honda team as Brawn GP saved Button’s bacon. He’s been lucky to be honest. When the team was on the cusp of closing down, Button’s services were not exactly in demand. Then the team was saved and the best manager in the sport worked his magic. Brawn GP suddenly looks like the dominant Ferrari’s of the Schumacher era. Perhaps that’s because Ross Brawn was Schumacher’s main man.

Button should and must be given credit as well. It wasn’t so much that he won in Australia, but the way he did it. He looked like a Schumacher, Alonso or Hamilton. He was dominant, poised and always in control. Compare this to Rubens Barichello who drove like it was his first race and you can see the difference between a potential real champion and a clear pretender.

The Australian Grand Prix is obviously only one race and it would be dangerous to draw too much from that race. With Ross Brawn in charge, however, you know the car will remain very competitive if not dominant. To his credit, Button appears to have seen the light and is ready to drive like a champion.

Well done, Jenson!
