Mad Max Mosley Legacy – Ugly Cars
Max Mosley should be ashamed. No, not about his oh so interesting personal life. No, his legacy is going to be the ugly cars he has left Formula One with. This man should be fired!
Let’s set the scenario. The last two championships have been some of the best every. Ferrari and McLaren going at it. Toro Rosso winning a race. Renault as well. So, what should we do? I know, let’s ruin everything. This is exactly what Mad Max Mosley has done.
Don’t get me wrong. I am all for cutting costs. I am also all for making the field competitive. There is something wrong in Formula One when Williams is a back marker. Something needed to be done, but not this. Oh, my. The new cars are so ugly as to be almost unwatchable.
Let us start with the hilarious wings. The rear wing is so small it is almost useless. In contrast, the front wing looks like a surfboard. Looking down on the car from the top, it actually appears as though the car is racing backwards. The biggest width is found at the front, not the back!
A secondary issue is the bizarre size of the cars. If you want to slow cars down, you make them bigger. The bigger the surface area, the more friction there is and the slower the car goes. These look like the little plastic cars my kids play with. As announcer Steve Matchett reported, the cars are actually a half second faster than last years cars!
These cars are a disgrace and so is Max Mosley. The idea of creating a more competitive grid is noble, but this is not the way to do it. If we wanted to see junk like these cars race around, the CART series would still be going. We don’t. It isn’t. Max should be shown the door.
